Baltimore, MD: Not published, 1830. Autograph. Very good+ condition. Unbound. Signed by Author(s). First Edition. 32mo - over 4" - 5" tall. Free frank, signed by J. P. Kennedy, addressed to Messrs Carey + Hart Philadephia. Postmarked "BALTIMORE Nov 1." There is no date on the postmark; circa 1830. Addressed entirely in Kennedy's hand. Envelope measures 5.1 x 3.1 inches (130mm x 79mm). Envelope front only; minor creasing, not affecting any writing. The firm Carey + Hart was formed in 1829, and was owned by Abraham Hart and Edward L. Carey (1806-1845) son of Mathew Carey. Kennedy graduated from Baltimore College in 1812 and fought in the Battles of Bladensburg and North Point in the War of 1812. He was an American novelist and Whig politician, serving as Member of Maryland State House of Delegates (1820-22 and 1846); Speaker of the Maryland State House of Delegates (1846); U.S. Representative from Maryland 4th District (1838-39 and 1841-45); U.S. Secretary of the Navy (1852-53)..
