Inscribed by the author: "To Barrett Clarke `The Mircle of the Industry' With appreciation Sincerely, George Kelly NY Feb. 1928" Laid in is the clipped signature of Jessie Busley, who played the title role and to whom the play was dedicated. Written just after his successful Pulitizer Prize winning Craig's Wife, this play about the female owner of a Harrisburgh and her relationship with an Atlantic City widower had a limited run. It was later revived as a radio drama with Ethel Merman and Dean Jagger. It has late been revived again for it feminist overtones.
