1945 · New York
New York: Navy Liason Unit, 1945. Wraps. Very Good/No Dust Jacket as Issued. 175p. A very good copy with some wear at bottom of spine else a near fine copy. Though it is not made clear initially this is the first work done by Howard Bay who later did the principal stage work for many of Broadway's finest musicals including Man of La Mancha. What is interesting is in the absence of available women actors in the Pacific, men were encouraged to play the female part by cross-dressing. Surely this was known by Rogers and Hammerstein when they wrote South Pacific for the set where Luther puts on a play is almost exactly out of this remarkable book. Of course, there are sketches using minstrel shows, pretend radio shows, quiz shows, etc.
