Catalogue of the exhibition attempting to give a balanced representation of the entire Victorian period. However, a period of over sixty years in the rapidly changing world of the nineteenth century could hardly show anything approaching uniformity of style. Even the most cursory view of this exhibition should demonstrate that no one set of generalities is adequate to describe the variety of works created during the era."
