Official announcement of the verdicts rendered by the Assembly on all of the accused, in the complicated swindle known as the "diamond Necklace Affair, including Cardinal Rohan (acquitted), Count Cagliostro (acquitted), Marc-Antoine Nicholas de la Motte and his wife Jeanne (both convicted of fraud, sentenced to public flogging (nude!) and branding. Although the Queen was exonerated of having any part in the affair, the sensational revelations of the life style at the Court harmed her and the Court irreparably, fanning the flames which soon led to the Revolution.
