Pen and ink on paper. 1 vols. 7-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches. Fine. Pen and ink on paper. 1 vols. 7-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches. Eddie Cantor, Josef Hoffmann, C.B. DeMille to Alfred Eisenstaedt. Eddie Cantor (1892-1964) began his stage career in 1907, and a half-century later was still going strong on TV's "Colgate Comedy Hour". He was a Ziegfeld Follies star, a radio headliner with his own shows, and a star of screen and television, best remembered as an exuberant singer bouncing goggle-eyed across stage performing such signature numbers as "Makin' Whoopee" and "If You Knew Susie (Like I Know Susie!)" [..."Out in public, she's meek and mild / But on the sofa, fireman, fireman save my child! / If you knew..."]. He hails Eisenstaedt, "for whose artistry I have a great admiration"; on the verso of his note are the best wishes of Modern Movement architect Hoffmanmn, actress Durbin, and "Greetings from Hollywood" from the protean C.B. DeMille. (Inventory #: 40561)
