OUTSIDE PARADISE AND OTHER STORIES. [Translated from the Lettish by T. Zalite. Edited by R. Daglish.]

by Upits, Andrejs
Moscow: Foreign Languages Publishing House, 1959. Octavo, cloth. First edition of this translation. Twelve stories written between 1902 and 1930, many with an anticlerical impetus. Some use fantastic motifs to make their point. "A Skeleton's Tale" features a conversation between two skeletons in a graveyard. In "Outside Paradise," Adam declares, after he and Eve have been cast out of Eden, "We have lost Paradise. We shall gain the earth!" Upits' fiction conformed to the Soviet brand of realism. A fine copy in near fine dust jacket with rubbing to edges and rear panel. (#117322) (Inventory #: 117322)
