Forty-nine short stories set in various parts of America at the turn-of-the-century, folksy in tone, generally very short, with a first-person narrator. Some are tall tales. Moffett was born on a small Delaware farm in 1881 and at age eighteen commenced a career in railroad signal work the spanned more than fifty years and took him throughout the country.
