Printed in black letter; separate title page for the New Testament. With a woman's ownership signature, that of Susanna Elizabeth Muhlenberg, daughter of G.H.E. Muhlenberg, on the front endpaper. The elder Muhlenberg (1753-1815), born in Pennsylvania, studied at Halle, 1763-1770, before embarking on his career as a Lutheran minister, serving the church in Lancaster, 1780-1815; in addition, he became a self-taught botanist, publishing numerous papers and books (see DAB).
