First printing Very good in 1/4 red cloth and gray paper covered boards with gilt text on the spine and a facsimile of the author's gilt signature on the front board. The cloth at the head and heel of the spine is very slightly tanned and the end pages are tanned from newspaper articles having been laid-in. In a very good- unclipped dust jacket with three small 1/8" deep chips from the upper edge of the spine area, 1/8" chips from the lower corners of the spine area which is faded and 1/4" deep chip at the lower edge of the front panel. Warmly signed and inscribed by the author on the first free end page and dated in the year of publication. Also, laid-in are 1) A newspaper review of this book title with a photograph of the author. 2) "A tribute to Charles O'Neill's Morning Time" by the publisher with a photograph. 3) A handwritten letter, signed by the author dated Oct. 17, 1949 which refers to a speaking engagement at a local bookstore and a monograph on the origins of the name "Nutmeg State". 3) A typed, signed letter from the author dated January 16, 1950 referring to the positive reviews from his book Morning Time. 392 pages of text followed by a one page commentary about the author. An historical fiction novel taking place just after the close of the Revolutionary War and culminates in the still struggling territory of Kentucky. (Inventory #: TB22428)
