[O'Neal, 89; Schimmelman, Architectural Books, 85]. Nicholson's book was the most important carpentry manual for its time. In it Nicholson showed original methods of constructing niches and groins of comple forms. This copy has an owner's signature dated 1811 on the title page. Jefferson ordered a copy of Nicholson for the University of Virginia. Our co has a four page, folio-sized folded Catalogue of Modern Books on Architecture by J. Taylor bound-in.
