Basalenque was a major Augustinian scholar of Mexican indigenous languages during the late 16th century, but his studies languages unpublished during his lifetime. This grammar of Tarascan (a.k.a., Purépecha) was first published only in 1714. This modern edition features corrections and additions by the great 19th-century scholar Dr. A. Penafiel.
