Publication of the proceedings of the two courts of inquiry in the case of Major General Pillow, one commenced and terminated in Mexico, the other commenced there and terminated in the United States. During the Mexican War his former law partner James K. Polk, then the President of the U.S.,appointed him brigadier general of Tennessee volunteers. Pillow participated in the battles leading to the surrender of Mexico City and was made a major general. Gen. Winfield Scott charged him with insubordination but he was acquitted by a court of inquiry. During the Civil War he served in the C.S.A.
