1832 · Bogotá
Official printing of the first Colombian constitution after the dissolution of the Republic of Gran Colombia (1822–30) and the short period of revolving leadership (1830–32). The constitution decentralized power, vesting it in the states, which then proceeded to snipe at one another; eventually civil war broke out. In 1842/3 a peace was achieved and in 1843 a new constitution with centralized power was promulgated.
