London: Frederick Muller, 1952. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. First edition. Foxing to the page edges and first and last few leaves, else about fine in very good plus dustwrapper with some tiny nicks and tears. Hired assassin Antonio Riccardi hides behind his false identity as a rare stamp dealer. Adapted and novelized by the author from his own radio scripts, this was the first of several of this Australian writer's books to be filmed, in 1951 directed by Michael McCarthy, and featuring Sydney Tafler, Ronald Howard, and Katharine Blake. This book also includes the text and first book appearance of the author's short story (again adapted from his own play) "Wide Boy," which was banned by the BBC, about a petty criminal who becomes involved in blackmail and murder, and which was also made into a 1952 film by Ken Hughes, and featuring Tafler, Howard, and Susan Shaw. A nice copy of a very scarce and poorly manufactured title.
