Springfield, Massachusetts: The Home Correspondence School, 1912. Small octavo, inserted frontispiece with portrait of Anatole France, original dark blue cloth stamped in gold and blind, t.e.g. First edition. Collects five stories, including Gauthier's fantasy, "The Mummy's Foot," all translated from the French by Esenwein who also furnishes an essay on each of the writers whose stories are included here. Esenwein was the editor of LIPPINCOTT'S MAGAZINE, and of other volumes of instruction, including textbooks, for short story writers. He is primarily known to science fiction collectors as the editor of the first genre SF anthology, ADVENTURES TO COME (1937). Light rubbing to spine ends and corner tips, a bright, near fine copy.
