first edition Full Contemporary Calf
1821 · London
by Willement, Thomas
London: W. Wilson, 1821. First Edition. Full Contemporary Calf. Very Good Plus. Thomas Willement. 4to. 25 by 20 cm. xi + 112 pp., 36 plates, 33 of which have brilliant hand-coloring, the three others are olive colored with black outlines. This copy also has a "regal index" tipped in that appears contemporary with the book, and thus quite interesting. Thomas Willement (1786 to 1871) was the heraldic artist to King George IV. This was his first book. Full contemporary tree calf has wear, esp. along spine edges, and spine has some dryness and rubbing. Marbled flypapers quite lovely and also appear contemporary to book. Pages are clean except a few have what looks like a tiny burn mark in upper right corner -- there is no danger to integrity of paper, and this is not in any way disconcerting. Plates are bright and brilliant in their color. (Inventory #: 000204)
