First presented "For Marion ----, sincere wishes from James Purdy". Underneath that Purdy goes on to re-present this copy "this book was never (word underscored) intended for Marion ---- who is a person totally unknown to me, if indeed she can be said to exist at all. Therefore this book is dedicated to Gene Andrewski whose moral right to the book in the first place is unquestioned and who gloriously exists, James Purdy". Andrewski is best known for his work as editor of the Paris Review.
