1981 · Portola Valley
by [Shirpser, Clara]
Portola Valley: American Lives Endowment, 1981. xiv, 195p., first edition titled buckram boards, these faintly yawn. Otherwise, the very faintest sign of handling. This copy is inscribed and signed by Shirpser on the ffep. Amongst the racier chapter titles are, First Brush with Dirty Tricks, The Boss-Controlled National Convention (1952), Whistle-Stopping with Adlai, The Mitchell Letter [in which redbaiting prevents and inspection of an AEC site], and, for the JFK people, Kennedy's California Campaign. She's genuinely left of center yet in the thick of it. Also materials on her work with Estes Kefauver and Stevenson, and their deaths. (Inventory #: 96370)
