1986 · London
by Lamont, Stewart
London: Harrap, 1986. 192p., illustrations from personal and archival photographs and documents in facsimile; first edition boards gilt in glossy dj, this copy as new. Lamont "is a broadcaster and journalist specializing in religious affairs," has worked for BBC Scotland and Channel 4. A previous book (and six film documentaries) deal with the paranormal. In some ways Lamont is the best-equipped writer so far to confront the Hubbardian knot. His two-page noodlings about LRH and Aleister Crowley have an especially confident ring. "Religion Inc." also nicely supplements the Russell Miller biography ("Bare Faced Messiah") and Bent Corydon's memoir ("Messiah or Madman?" done in collaboration with Ron Hubbard Jr). No repeats amongst the photographs either, most being from Lamont's personal collection and The Times' archives. (Inventory #: 96738)
