Covers bordered in five gilt fillets with corner embellishments. Central panels in blind-stamp with geometric borders and corner florets. Spine titled and decorated in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers and matching free-edges. Top of front free endpaper slightly frayed, darkened on verso. Corners gently worn. Few small scuffs on covers. Frontispiece portrait of the author, a steel-engraving by T.A. Dean. This edition of the plays was taken from the text of George Steevens and Edmond Malone. Contains a two-page sketch of the life of the author followed by a seventeen-page glossary of terms. A handsome, mellowed volume. Internally very clean throughout. The Regency Period lasted from 1811-1820. It was so-named when George, Prince of Wales, was appointed Regent due to his father King George III's worsening mental illness.
