The Hampton L. Carson Collection of Engraved Portraits of Gen. George Washington (Part 1

Philadelphia, 1904. Hardcover. VG. Red cloth around original wraps, leather spine label. 173 pp. Numerous illustrations. The first part of the sale lists 1085 lots pertaining to Washington. The second sale (not present with this catalogue) lists lots 1086 to 2226. An extremely rare catalogue in superb condition. The reproductions have thin red lines through them to prevent them from being sold as originals. Almost all the works in these catalogues are annotated to some degree. The Washington portion of the sale consists of Saint Memin's personal collection of proof mezzotints of portraits he engraved, and Saint Memin's original physionotrace of Washington. Inexplicably, the sheet for pages 171/172 is missing from this otherwise very nice copy. (Inventory #: 130065)
