signed Hardcover
1928 · New York
by McKay, Richard C
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1928. Original blue cloth spine and tips, with gold rules on the edges of the cloth separating the cloth from the lighter blue paper on the boards. A little wear on the top and the bottom of the spine. 10 colored plates. The only defect is the dreaded Scotch tape (five pieces) used to fasten the autograph page to the frontispiece, having been laid over a previous taping, now absent, at some distant time. There is, on the preliminary facing the autograph page, some offset from the previous tape, but none, mirabile dictu, on the autograph page, itself. It sounds worse than it is. Actually, the book is firm and tight. The text is concerned with the "study of the American Sailing Packet and Clipper Eras, ". Interestingly, it is dedicated to Donald McKay's TWO wives. It is #232 of 250 numbered and signed books in the first edition. Included on the inside of the front board is a small packet in mylar containing a bit of one of the "skids" which launched the ships after completion.. By Author and Publisher. Author's Autograph Edition. Cloth Backed Paper Covered Bds. Good/No D.j.. Illus. by Patterson, Charles R.. 4to. Limited. (Inventory #: WN59127)
