Genthe, born in Berlin, emigrated to San Francisco in 1895, where he taught himself the art of photography. Famous for his images of pre-1906 Chinatown, Genthe would later establish himself as a master of portraiture. His subjects would include Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, John D. Rockefeller, Greta Garbo & Isadora Duncan. (Inventory #: 36185)
