Known to the Police
(circa 1915) · London
by HOLMES, THOMAS
London: Thomas Nelson & Sons, (circa 1915). Ownership signature dated 1915. Near fine copy with a touch of fading to the cloth at the spine and minor edge wear in a lightly dust soiled used dust jacket with some tape repairs, tearing and some small chips. A study of crime and police work in London in the early 1900s, including chapters on burglars of note, discharged prisoners, ‘Hooliganism’ and the poor, etc. Interesting reading from the author of ‘Pictures and Problems from London Police Courts.’ The front panel of the dust jacket is a graphic illustration of a London police officer shielding a young boy from a violent looking man.
