1983 · New York
by FRIEDMAN, MICKEY
New York: Dutton, 1983. First Edition. Inscribed and signed by the author, Mickey Friedman, to fellow writer, Wayne Warga. Inscribed: “To Wayne, Here, to complete your collection of Friedmania, is a ton of affection from me! You’re a champ (and a wonderful writer, too). Love, Mickey.” Fine in a fine dust jacket. Laid in is a xerox copy of an article about Friedman’s work from the International Herald Tribune, written by Barry James, dated Wednesday, January 31, 1990, in which Ms. Friedman offers this insightful metaphor: “The mystery form is like gymnastic equipment. You can grasp hold of it and show off what you can do. It is comforting to have that support, but it can also be confining.” At the bottom of the page, Friedman has written: “Dear Wayne, I’d given up on this, but here it is! I’m thrilled. Hope all goes well. Love, M.” From the library of journalist and novelist Wayne Warga. The youngest editor at Life Magazine at age 25, Warga reported on John F. Kennedy’s race for the Presidency, and went on to cover the Civil Rights movement for the magazine. For many years, Warga was one of the leading writers at the Los Angeles Times where he did in depth articles and features on writers and people in the arts. Later, Warga became a mystery novelist, creating three well-received bibliomysteries: Hardcover, Fatal Impressions, and Singapore Transfer, featuring Los Angeles rare book dealer, Jeffrey Dean.
