Cappy Ricks Retires
1922 · New York
by KYNE, PETER B
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1922. Reprint edition. Laid in is a Typed Letter Signed, 1 page, from Peter Kyne to a friend. He writes of an illness and the prescription of castor oil and milk of magnesia given by his wife, the story continues: “I went out on this yacht with an old friend and we drank three stiff Scotches to our friendship. We lunched and I drank to stiff cafe royales -- and blinked out. Imagine my surprise when I awakened in a hospital. I got the hell out of there next morning to avoid starving to death, stayed abed three days and have been back on the job ever since and just exuding good resolutions. However, I’m glad it happened, for I achieved nation-wide publicity via press and radio and all my old fans, quiescent for years, woke up and said: ‘My God, he’s liable to die. I’ll write him I’m sorry.’ I had thought, after a long absence from the magazines, due to semi-invalidism for seven years, I’d been forgotten. Made me feel grand to know I am not. With all good wishes, I am Sincerely, Peter.” Very good with a sunned and worn spine, and without dust jacket. (Inventory #: 6169N)
