first edition
1749 · London
by Cobden, Edward.
London: J. Lodge, 1749. 4to. [4], 20 pp.
First edition of this sermon preached by the Archdeacon of Middlesex and Chaplain in Ordinary to King George II. Cobden was forced -- unsurprisingly, perhaps -- to resign his chaplaincy as a result of delivering this sermon; the DNB says that he published it as an act of "self-defence.
ESTC T8439. On Cobden, see: Dictionary of National Biography. Removed from a nonce volume. Sewing gone and leaves separated. Pages age-toned with moderate spotting; some lower edges with small nicks. (Inventory #: 18117)
