New York: 5 pages, quarto, March 2, 1928. Gloria Swanson assigns the copyrights of her classic film, Sadie Thompson and her film, The Love of Sunya. This document was created as Sadie Thompson went into general release The document is an agreement between Gloria Swanson Productions and Art Cinema Corporation [owned by film mogul Joseph Schenk who released films through United Artists], assigning copyrights “of motion pictures entitled respectively The Love of Sunya and Sadie Thompson, including assignment of copyright of motion picture rights to stories upon which said motion pictures are based.” Signed twice on the fourth page in green fountain pen by Swanson and is blindstamped with her Gloria Swanson Productions seal. Swanson (for which she was nominated for one of the earliest Academy Awards for Best Actress. In fine condition, with several notations on front cover of legal folder. Sadie Thompson is considered one of the great classics of silent film and along with Sunset Boulevard, Gloria Swanson’s finest performance. After the introduction of sound films massive amounts of studio documents relaitng to silent flms were destroyed making this a particularly rare piece. Accompanined by an original eight by ten inch still photograph from Sadie Thompson showing Swanson with co-star Lionel Barrymore. Additionally, accompanying are DVD copies of both Sadie Thompson and The Love of Sunya. (Inventory #: 13322J)
