London: Barrie & Jenkins, 1971. British Hardbound Edition. Inscribed and signed by the author, Curt Siodmak, to noted mystery writer John Ball. Inscribed: “For John Ball, in gratitude for the opportunity of having met a man of similar chemistry. Curt Siodmak, Old South Fork Ranch, Three Rivers, Cal. 9324, Nov 1984.” Fine in a fine dust jacket. John Ball is best known for his novel, In the Heat of the Night, introducing his Black detective, Virgil Tibbs, and was the basis of the Oscar winning classic crime film starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. One of the landmark science fiction and horror novels of the 1940s, Donovan’s Brain, was the first science fiction novel to feature a brain being kept alive outside its body. A very influential novel with many of its elements still seen in science fiction today. Stephen King has picked Donovan’s Brain as one of his ten favorite science fiction - horror - fantasy novels. King wrote “...Donovan’s Brain moves from a scientific basis to outright horror...Siodmak is a fine thinker...the flow of his speculative ideas in Donovan’s Brain is as exciting to follow as the flow of ideas in a novel by Issac Asimov of Arthur C. Clarke.” Donovan’s Brain has been filmed a remarkable four times and remains one those classics that is still thought provoking and entertaining. (Inventory #: 13369J)
