Paris: Carteret, 1913. First edition. Leloir, Maurice. One of 80 copies on japon with the illustrations in two states (tirage de tête, the total edition was 300 copies). Handsome contemporary olive-green straight-grain morocco (faded to brown on the spine), elaborately gilt with geometric and floral borders on the covers, spine with five raised bands, gilt edges, dentelles, by Chambolle-Duru. Spine edges slightly rubbed, otherwise fine. Etched and engraved by Lèon Boisson. With the bookplate of Count Tolstoy, and the 1924 ownership stamp from the Odessa Public Library. Leloir's attention to historical accuracy in the costumes in his finely detailed engravings led Douglas Fairbanks to hire him as artistic director for The Iron Mask in 1929. (Inventory #: 1197)
