Friedrich Wilhelm Ziegler was an actor and dramatist. In 1778, he went to Hamm and then Vienna where he attracted the attention of emperor Josephs II, who arranged in 1781 to employ him at the Hoftheater. There, he worked until his retirement in 1822 as a playwright and as a Theaterkonsulent. As a stage poet, Ziegler was considered to be the equal of August Iffland and August von Kotzebue. His dramatic works were published in 1824-1827, in 13 volumes.
