Paris: Prefecture De Police, 1916. Unbound. Very Good. Small octavo partially printed document. Folded, very good. A safe-conduct pass, via railroad from Paris to Evian-les-Bains, issued to the American publisher, editor, and bookstore owner Arthur Brentano, during World War I. Signed by Brentano in the appropriate place, with numerous stamps and countersigning by various police officials. Brentano, the nephew of Brentano's founder August Brentano, succeeded his uncle and expanded the bookstore into publishing, and opening several branches, most famously in Paris, and in Chicago (Kroch and Brentano's).
