NY: Atheneum, 1971. First edition, first prnt. Signed by Buechner on the title with an explanatory note dated "1 Sept. 1974" written on the page about his experience writing the novel. "I've had few happier times in my life than the two or three months it took me to write this. It came spinning out of my head as effortlessly as a dream.. characters emerging out of nowhere complete with faces, names, histories. When I finished it one sunny afternoon in Florida, I thought I was finished with Leo Bebb and his friends for good, but there was still so muich life in them for me that I had to write another book about them, and then another. But this one was my first love. It was 'on the house.' I remember the writing of it like a love affair. I hope it gives you some pleasure too." The reader to whom this lovely reminiscence is written is not named. Cloth spine ends lightly pushed; dustjacket with toning on the top edges, minimal edgewear and rubbing. Tight copy in Near Fine condition in a Very Good dustjacket with an archival cover. The first novel in Buechner's Leo Bebb series.. Signed By Author with Note. First Edition. Hardcovers. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
