Report of the Commissioner of the General Land Office for the Year 1866.
1867. · Washington:
by [Land Office].
8vo, original brown cloth, large folding lithograph map (71 x 141 cm) with some hand coloring, 155 pp. Some wear at extremities, small bump and tear with slight glue repairs to upper spine, ends and corners, a bit bumped, short splits to front joints, a few small tears to map; otherwise very good. A somewhat scarce edition of this report, which was put together by Joseph S. Wilson. Wilson an Irish immigrant served twice as the Commissioner. In addition to the large folding map, there are many tables that provide information on various aspects of a survey that was probably done in 1865. That survey includes information on everything from coal deposits to swamp lands. An 1867 edition of this report appears to be more common, and may have been published in the same year.
