The Universal Calendar and North American Almanack, for the Year of the Creation According to the Scriptures 5751: And for the Christian Era 1789.
[1788]. · Boston:
by Stearns, Samuel.
Pamphlet, small 8vo (4" x 6 1/4"), stitched, original wraps, 24 pp. Title partially detached, some letters faded, some chips, folds, and tears, and 2/3 of one page is missing, aged, browned and a little foxed, and slightly fragile; still a reasonable copy. Stearns (1741-1809) recognized almanacs were often cheap source of information or entertainment, but did strongly believe in the benefits of understanding astronomy. This almanac is typical of the period, but does include a list of roads in the New England area and the names of those that kept houses of entertainment along the way. Stowell: Early American Almanacs. (Inventory #: 102072)
