1952 · Los Angeles
by Wood, Helen W.
Los Angeles: American Soul Clinic, 1952. 77p., wraps shelf worn, end papers foxed, illus. Not found in Seidman. Former Communist Party organizer writes of her conversion to Christianity while working in the defense of an African American youth in Iowa charged with murder. Wood, a white organizer for the ILD in Iowa, went to the defense of the young man; the Iowa Communist Party opposed her work. Browder supported her. This began her conversion to evangelical Christianity, a process completed in a Los Angeles' skid row mission run by Fred Jordan. Unusual apostate account because of her antiracism and involvement in the African American community. (Inventory #: 34725)
