Hoselton claimed to be free, but Renner held him as his slave. Judge Upton Sheredine [1740-1800], born in Baltimore, moved to Frederick County in 1754. He was a Representative from Maryland to the Second Session of the U.S. Congress, a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention in 1776, a judge and holder of a variety of other offices, including a member of the special court which tried and sentenced Tories. William Ritchie served as clerk of the Frederick County Court from 1779 to 1815.
