Second American edition, from the sixth Cambridge edition. First published in Edinburgh in 1787, Dalzel's book went through numerous editions. The first American edition was published in Lexington, Kentucky in 1823 with the Boston edition being the second edition in 1825. Dalzel was Professor of Greek in the University of Edinburgh who collected these selecti from classical and biblical Greek for students to study. He also contributed the notes and lexicon which he translated from the Latin into English. His selctions contains contributions from Aesop's Fables, Lucian's Dialogues, Xenophon's Cyropaedia, Odes of Anacreaon, as well as from the Old Testament. Minor chipping to extremities of spine, minor wear to tips. Some sporatic foxing in text, else very good. (Inventory #: 38948)
