It is a merger of two different periodicals. The Southern Planter, was begun in 1841 and ran until 1867 when it merged with Farmer. This issue is edited by L.R. Dickinson. Articles include: "On the connection between the manures made on the farm and artificial manures," "Public schools, with note by 'Civis,'" and several editorials such as "Virginia before and after the war." Includes thirty-thre pages of farming, building, commercial and other advertisments from the surrounding regions around Richmond, Charlottesville and up to Washington. (Inventory #: 38938)
