This to Emma Goldman was the most vital part of her experiences and here is a marvelous anticipation of what later would appear as "The God Who Failed" where Richard Wright, Arthur Koestler and others also found the failure of the communist ideal. Here we read of Louise Bryant's disillustionment (which was also that of the dying John (Jack) Reed. Her penetrating criticism of Lenin and the Bolsheviks must have been disregarded by the dreamers in the U.S. who through the 1930's mostly made excuses for the horrors of Stalinism until the Nazi-Soviet pact when even they realized they had wrongly placed their trust in a false god.
