Sloperton Cottage, Devizes [Wiltshire, Engand], 1833. One page. 12mo. Old folds, tape mark on verso. One page. 12mo. Moore acknowledges the receipt of Count Gurowski's letter of the 14th, "enclosing one from Ch. Boskin, the Editor of L'Europe Littéraire. Mr. Moore feels sensibly the distinction conferred upon him by the flattering proposal which their letters convey, and ony regrets that the circumstances mentioned in the enclosed communication for Mr. Boskin render his compliance with that peoposal, at the present moment, impossible."
L'Europe littéraire was a weekly review of the arts and literature, created in 1833, whose goal was to publicize not only the work of French artists and writers, but also the work of important European artists, including English. The first year saw an article on the state of German literature by Heinrih Heine; as well as a piece by Count Leo Tolstoi on the state of Russian literature. it is very likely that the "flattering proposal" made to Thomas Moore was to contrbute a similar piece on English literature. (Inventory #: 262406)
