First edition, small 8vo, pp. [20], 376, 392, 195; *-2*4, 3*2, A-Z8, 2A4, 2A-4E4; 2C2 missigned 2C3, 4V3 missigned 5V3, 5D2 missigned 5D3, 5E3 missigned 5E2; title page printed in red, woodcut printer's device and initials; three-quarter 19th-century calf over marbled boards recently rebacked, gilt spine, marbled endpapers; ex-Library of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. with their late 19th-century gift bookplate from the bibliophile and philanthropist James Lenox mounted to front pastedown; edges worn, endpaper edges cracked and worn, glue stains from previous crude tape repair to back endpaper and flyleaf; small tear to L6 affecting text without loss of meaning, occasional dampstaining throughout, else textblock mostly very good.
