Winchester: Doswell, John T., 1862. original cloth with gilt lettering. folio. original cloth with gilt lettering. (ii), 66; (vi), 34 pages. An Extension of the Latin Text, and an English Translation of the Domesday Book, as far as it relates to Hampshire; with expanatory Notes... To Accompany the Facsimile Copy, Photo-zincographed under the direction of Col. Sir G. James , R.E., F.R.S. at the Ordinance Survey Office, Southampton. Two volumes. The second being the lovely facsimile which is mentioned on the title page of the first volume. An extract from the Domesday Book, hand-copied and certified by the Public Record Office dated 4 July 1875, is laid-in the first volume with a note to see page 20, Item 51. Previous owner's notes on the first blank page of the first volume give the family history relating to the books. Both volumes' boards are very worn, with the facsimile volume somewhat faded as well. Volume one has the rear board detached, part of the original spine covering, and the front board held on by brown paper tape from the inside. Volume two is lacking the spine, the boards are just barely holding together, again with the aid of brown paper tape, and there is some evidence of more narrow tape on the exterior at the spine. The interior of both books shows minor foxing. (Inventory #: 87321)
