by Morgan, John Pierpont
Boston: Crosby, Nichols, and Company, 1856. original stiff paper wrappers. Morgan, John Pierpont. 8vo. original stiff paper wrappers. (iii), 30 pages. A Poem Delivered Before the New-England Society In the City of New York at their Semi-Centennial Anniversary, December 22, 1855. Poet and Unitarian minister John Pierpont (1785-1866,), grandfather of John Pierpont Morgan, was the author of this epic poem. Pierpont's anti-slavery sentiments are clear in the poem, especially in the final stanzas. Unfortunately, his prejudices regarding Native Americans are also revealed. Wrappers are moderately soiled and show minor shelf wear.
