First published in 1730, this is an abridgment of Gibson's great Codex Juris Ecclesiastici Anglicani (1713) in question-and-answer form. Gibson's work is a comprehensive treatise in two folio volumes. It was therefore too detailed and expensive for most students and clergy. Grey's abridged edition brought Gibson's work to a wider audience. What is more, Grey's edition carefully emphasizes the rights and status of the Anglican church in order to defend it from the claims of non-conformists.
