Based on William Boyd's 1984 novel, about a British art scholar who travels to the American south to purchase a painting by Renoir from a family of eccentric hillbillies in rural Georgia. While the family's patriarch is content to sell the painting at a low value, his scheming son has already promised the piece to a rival art dealer for $15 million, and misunderstandings and mishaps inevitably ensue.
