signed first edition
1999 · New York
by Elmore Leonard
New York: Delacorte Press, 1999. First Edition. First Edition. INSCRIBED by the late Elmore Leonard on the title page to Tony Bill: "For Tony Bill / Take it easy / Elmore Leonard." Laid in is a "Compliments of the author" card from the publisher, and a bookmark from an event held at The Mint (Los Angeles, CA), where Leonard read his work and The Stone Coyotes provided live music. The band and their music, particularly founding member Barbara Keith, were a major influence on Leonard, inspiring much of the material that went into "Be Cool."
From the collection of Oscar-winning director and producer Tony Bill, whose work includes "The Sting" (1973), "Soldier in the Rain" (1963), "Shampoo" (1975), and "Five Corners" (1987).
Basis for the 2005 F. Gary Gray film starring John Travolta as Chili Palmer and Uma Thurman as Edie Athens. In spite of a star-studded cast, including OutKast's Andre "3000" Benjamin, Harvey Keitel, the late Anna Nicole Smith, and members of seminal rock group Aerosmith, the prequel "Get Shorty" (1995) received far more acclaim, and was, generally, cooler.
Light foxing to the top page edges, else Near Fine and unread in a Near Fine dust jacket. (Inventory #: 133838)
