February 1, 1947.” Carey McWilliams was the author of Southern California Country (a major inspiration for the film, Chinatown) eventually becoming the editor of The Nation magazine. Former library copy and the book bears their deaccessioned stamp. With the recipient’s gift bookplate to the library of the University of California Los Angeles, with the library’s numbering on the spine, with notations and stamps on bottom edge, and rear endpapers. The basis of the 1964 television production billed as the first ever “Made for TV Movie,” titled See How They Run starring John Forsythe, Senta Berger, Jane Wyatt, Franchot Tone, Leslie Nielsen, Pamela Franklin, and George Kennedy.
