The illustrations are remarkable, reminiscent of the Neo-classicism of Flaxman, yet very much of the fantasy genre. Original blue-gray paper boards with calf spine and tips. Title in gilt on front cover and spine. All edges gilt. . Oblong quarto. Twenty-six mounted sepia illustrations. Binding extremities rubbed, chipped at head of spine, dampstaining to boards. A decent copy of a very scarce title. Jane Margaret Winnard Hooper was the author of several other children's books, including Arbell : A Tale for Young People (1853) and Fanny and Arthur, or, Persevere and Prosper (1862).
